EDDart Rome, presents La Luce abbraccia tutto: Verdiana Bove and Luigi Ghirri, from October 19 to December 2, 2023 at Palazzo Taverna, Rome.

The exhibition project was conceived as a dialogue between a selection of vintage photographs by Luigi Ghirri (Scandiano 1942 – Roncocesi 1992) and works specifically created by Verdiana Bove (Rome, 1996), who is for the first time exhibiting in our spaces.

Verdiana Bove’s artistic practice comes to life through family photographs collected in old albums, which transposed on canvas appear as memories: an autobiographical work in which the theme of memory is pivotal.

For La luce abbraccia tutto (a quotation from Ghirri, who uses it in praise of fellow artist Walker Evans), the artist, going beyond the personal dimension, has confronted herself with the imagery of the Emilian master present in the exhibition with both landscape photographs (Grizzana Morandi, 1978) and interiors (Paris, 1979).

As Simone Zacchini explains in his text, light is a fundamental element of union between the two artists’ research: “The intent is to create a visual counterpart with the calm and suspended light that embraces Ghirri’s photographs” […] “Ghirri’s photographs are not merely repurposed in the canvases, but the painter exploits the atmosphere, and visual and coloristic references using them as a frame for the representation of her ethereal characters, together with their possible imagery.”
