EDDart is proud to present, from June 13 to July 19, 2024, La strada sognata. Artiste a Roma negli anni Quaranta, an exhibition curated by Valeria Della Valle with the collaboration of Elena Del Drago, Costanza Pinci and Cristina Faloci.

The title, drawn from a book published by Einaudi, refers to a physical place—“the dreamed street” being Via Margutta in the years before, during and immediately after the Second World War—but it also evokes the ideal path that a group of women painters, who arrived in Rome from various parts of Italy and Europe, dreamed of pursuing through their art.

Through their works—adventurously traced in the homes of heirs and collectors—the exhibition reconstructs the story of eight women painters associated with the “Roman School”, who lived in Via Margutta or in the surrounding streets from the early decades of the twentieth century.

The memory of some of them is still alive, at least among art historians and scholars, while the legacy of others has largely faded.

The exhibition aims to restore new visibility to all eight painters, bringing them together once again at Palazzo Taverna, just as when they first arrived—young women full of dreams—in Via Margutta.

A catalogue will accompany the exhibition, featuring a text by Valeria Della Valle.

Works by Katy Castellucci, Eva Fischer, Graziana Meschini, Pasquarosa, Adriana Pincherle, Eva Quajotto, Wicky Wilhelm, and Maria Pia Zanetti.
