EDDart Rome presents La Luce abbraccia tutto: Verdiana Bove and Luigi Ghirri, from October 19 to December 2, 2023, at Palazzo Taverna, Rome.
The exhibition project was conceived as a dialogue between a selection of vintage photographs by Luigi Ghirri (Scandiano, 1942 – Roncocesi, 1992) and works created specifically for the occasion by Verdiana Bove (Rome, 1996), who is exhibiting in our spaces for the first time.
Verdiana Bove’s artistic practice takes shape through family photographs collected in old albums, which, when transferred onto canvas, appear as memories. It is an autobiographical body of work in which the theme of memory plays a central role.
For La luce abbraccia tutto (a quotation by Ghirri, who used it in praise of his colleague Walker Evans), the artist moves beyond the personal dimension to engage with the visual imagination of the Emilian master featured in the exhibition, present both through landscape photographs (Grizzana Morandi, 1978) and interior views (Paris, 1979).
As Simone Zacchini explains in his text, light is the fundamental element uniting the research of the two artists: “The intention is to create a visual counterpart to the calm and suspended light that embraces Ghirri’s photographs” […]“Ghirri’s photographs are not simply reproduced on the canvases; rather, the painter draws on their atmosphere, visual and chromatic references, using them as a framework for the representation of her ethereal figures and their possible imaginary.”
