Francesca Duscià – Galattiche

Palazzo Taverna / Via di Monte Giordano, 36 / Rome
October 19, 2024 / November 14, 2024

EDDart Rome, on the occasion of Roma Diffusa, presents Francesca Duscià, Galattiche, on view from October 16 to November 4, 2024.

The exhibition, the artist’s third solo show at the gallery, presents her most recent body of work dedicated to the world of science and to portraits of some of the most influential female figures—such as Marie Curie, Rita Levi-Montalcini, Nettie Stevens and others—whose extraordinary contributions have left an indelible mark on human progress. Their commitment and determination in pursuing their ideas make them not only fascinating pioneers, but also remarkable warriors of knowledge.

“My interest in the world of science stems from the idea that this field today represents the origin of a new aesthetic avant-garde. Although there is still much to discover, science is becoming an essential component of shared knowledge.”

Born in Rome with Neapolitan and Genoese roots, the artist studied modern art history as well as philosophy and the history of religions, focusing in particular on Catholicism and Judaism, whose symbols frequently appear in her works. She is deeply drawn to the Renaissance and to Paolo Veronese, yet approaches scientific themes from an anthropological perspective. Part of her research is dedicated to performance and to further exploration through meetings and lectures with scholars, physicists and scientists, including Ersilia Vaudo, Gaetano Salina, Massimo Bianchi and Giovanni Amelino-Camelia. Her work has been exhibited in several Italian cities and institutional venues, including the Museo Bilotti and the MACRO – Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome, the MANN – National Archaeological Museum of Naples, the Museo Bellomo in Syracuse and the Jewish Museum of Venice.
