EDDart is pleased to present The Invisible Measure, an exhibition dedicated to the latest works by Giuseppe Pietroniro (Toronto, 1968), created specifically for the exhibition space based on a reflection on the work of Mario Giacomelli (1925–2000).

The series of works on paper on display stems from a close observation of Giacomelli’s photographic practice, particularly his landscape images, in which geometric lines — ploughed fields, tree trunks, aerial views — structure the space.

Since the beginning of his artistic practice, Pietroniro has explored the concept of space, both physical and existential, through installations, sculptures, and two-dimensional works that challenge the perception of reality.

In La Misura Invisibile, the artist chooses drawing as his sole medium, constructing an imaginary geography in which observation and imagination overlap.

“Drawing is the only trace, the only testimony that tells the world we have been here. With a pencil, I construct an imaginary world made of volumes, time, and duration, without resorting to photography or artificial intelligence,” says Pietroniro.

The use of pencils of varying hardness generates landscapes in which planes and volumes intersect, giving shape to a new spatiotemporal dimension, both internal and external at once.

Referring to Giacomelli, the artist notes: “He uses photography, yet he is a truly multidisciplinary artist, capable of working with light and matter to the point of creating actual volumes.”
